With the Family Day approaching on Monday, February 19th, it is time to start deciding what to do with your family for this long weekend. Here is a list of seven fun Family Day activities to do in Caledon this coming long weekend:
1. Wassailing Festival at Spirit Tree Estate Cidery
Wassailing is the traditional practicing of singing to trees in apple orchards to promote a good harvest for the coming year. You and your family members can participate in the festival by using noisemakers or join the processions to sing, shout, and bang drums, pots, and pans.
This award-winning festival has been happening for several years on Family Day. It takes place at Spirit Tree Estate Cidery in Caledon. From skating and sledding to wagon rides, face painting, and roasting marshmallows, there are activities for everyone in the family and it is always a great opportunity to spend time with the ones you love.
Spirit Tree Estate Cidery is asking for a donation of $5.00 per person or $20.00 per carload upon entrance. All of the donations will go to support Bethell Hospice in Inglewood.
2. Family Day Fun at Teen Ranch
Skating and downhill tubing are just two of the activities that you and your family can enjoy this Family Day at this event. Family Day Fun is free to attend and takes place on February 19th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Teen Ranch in Caledon. Teen Ranch will also have hot chocolate and their snack bar open and available for items to be purchased.
3. Skating After Dark at Terra Cotta Conservation Area
Skate under the stars at the Terra Cotta Conservation Area on the lake rink on February 17th, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm. Enjoy the unique experience of skating on the lake, surrounded by lit torches on this special evening.
Remember to bring your own skates to this event, as there are none available for rental.
4. Family Fun Day at Terra Cotta Conservation Area
Enjoy the Family Fun Day event at the Terra Cotta Conservation Area from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm on February 19, 2018. There will be a variety of activities to enjoy right in the conservation area, including:
- Ice skating on the lake
- Snowshoeing or cross-country skiing (rentals available)
- Exploring the trails
- Enjoying a warm bonfire
- Sampling some delicious maple syrup taffy
Food will also be available for purchase from an on-site food truck, for this special Family Day event. Please remember the event is weather permitting.
5. Family Fun Day at Island Lake Conservation Area
This free event at the Island Lake Conservation Area is sure to be fun for the whole family, with lots of outdoor activities to try for everyone. From 8:00 am until 6:00 pm, you and the family can enjoy ice fishing and skating on the lake, snowshoeing, or kick sledding.
If you find yourself too cold to enjoy these activities, you can also cozy up around the outdoor fire to enjoy marshmallow and hot dog roasting. Again, this event is weather permitting.
6. Go Skiing at the Caledon Ski Club
Although the Caledon Ski Club is not open on February 19th, it is open on Saturday and Sunday of Family Day Weekend (February 17th & 18th). Everyone in the family will enjoy a day on the slopes at the Caledon Ski Club, with skiing and snowboarding areas for the little ones at the Kids Club nursery and the Kinder Ski area.
Remember to call ahead if you’re not a member — the Caledon Ski Club is a private ski club with guest skiing by reservation only. Lifts operate from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
7. Get Active at Caledon Community Centres
Caledon Community Centres have public swimming or public skating — or maybe even both, depending on the community centre — for you and your family to enjoy.
You can also try checking out one of the local libraries, such as the one located in the Albion-Bolton Community Centre. Each community centre has a variety of weekend activities available, which you can find through the Town of Caledon’s Community Calendar.
*Most of these events and/or activities are weathering permitting. Please check the websites for the most up to date information regarding these family day activities.
